CONCACAF Annonces TV Agreement in USA For 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup October 29th, 2004 CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football)
announced today that it has entered into an agreement that will bring the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup to television audiences
across the USA. The US television rights have been bought by Univision, the country’s leading Spanish-language broadcaster, which runs TV
networks Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión. Under the terms of the agreement all 25 matches of the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup
will be televised live for the first time in Gold Cup history. Univision has also secured the US television rights for the
2007 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Univision has previously partnered with CONCACAF to bring the Gold Cups of 2000, 2002 and 2003 to TV audiences in the USA
and, during this period, the popularity of the Gold Cup on TV has grown significantly in the USA. In announcing the agreement with Univision, CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer said, "We are delighted to be working
with Univision once again to bring Gold Cup football to viewers in the USA. We have worked with Univision for a number of
years now and as the popularity of the CONCACAF Gold Cup continues to grow, we will be working closely with all of our
television partners to ensure we build on this success." The 2005 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup will take place in the USA from 6-24 July 2005 with host venues to be announced
soon. Discussions between CONCACAF and broadcasters in other countries continue on an ongoing basis. Source: Concacaf.com |
