Full90 Sports Introduces Team Full90 San Diego, CA (July 14, 2003) With the addition of, Christine Latham, Daniela, and Allie Kemp-Sullivan, Team Full90 brings together some of the best and most well- known soccer players in the United States to promote head protection on the field
San Diego, CA (July 14, 2003) – In an effort to raise awareness of the need for head protection on the soccer field, Full90 Sports, a provider of superior athletic protection equipment, today officially announced the formation of Team Full90. Team Full90, which includes superstars such as Joy Fawcett, Christine Latham, and Jamie Pagliarulo, is focused on educating the industry about protection standards and bringing public attention to issues of head protection for soccer players.
In addition to the official formation of the team, Full90 has also announced that three top stars have joined today to lend their names and talent to getting the safety word out:
• Christine Latham – Standout with Canadian National Team and forward for the San Diego Spirit
• Daniela – Current San Diego Spirit midfielder and the youngest player in the WUSA. Daniela is also a starter for the Brazilian National Team • Allie Kemp-Sullivan – Forward for the San Diego Spirit and All-Pac 10 Conference player While soccer is a relatively safe sport compared to American football or hockey, recent studies show that accidents can and do occur in soccer and often go unchecked. According to a recent study at McGill University, more than 60% of college-level players reported symptoms of concussions during a single year. The conclusion supported the fact that head injuries are more frequent than most suspected. Studies have also shown that the majority of concussions occur from head to player contact or head to ground impact. Full90 Sports was created to protect players from these types of injuries and has formed Team Full90 in an effort to bring greater attention to equipment needs on the soccer field. Most recently, Full90 launched their first product offering, the Full90 Performance HeadguardTM. Its design reduces the forces reaching the head in an impact, and thus the probability of head injuries. It also ensures that the ball always plays true, as if it where coming directly from the player’s head. The Full90 Performance Headguard was also deemed legal for use by US Soccer and is rapidly being adopted by soccer players from the youth to professional ranks. “The simple fact is that head injuries occur on the soccer field and are more common than most people think, “ said Jeff Skeen, President and CEO of Full90 Sports. “There’s a reason why some of the biggest names in soccer have joined Team Full90 and are behind the idea of using the headguard, because they know first hand what can happen when two players collide on the field.” Team Full90 consists of: •Joy Fawcett – Played on three US National Teams and is the highest scoring defender in US Women’s National Team History
•Christine Latham – Canadian Women’s National Team •Carlos “Chile” Farias – Forward for the San Diego Sockers and named CISL’s rookie of the year •Daniela – Current San Diego Spirit midfielder and the youngest player in the WUSA. Daniella is also a member of the Brazilian National Team. •Chris Fimbres – Forward for the Sand Diego Sockers and an up and coming star in the world of indoor soccer •Jamie Pagliarulo - Starting Goalkeeper with the San Diego Spirit, Member of U.S. National Team in 2001 &’97, Member of the U.S Under-21 National Team from ’93-‘97, and three-time All-American at George Mason University
•Kim Pickup – Starting Defender for the San Diego Spirit, four-time NCAA Final Four Player with Santa Clara University •Allie Kemp-Sullivan – Forward for the San Diego Spirit What are the players saying about the Full 90 Performance Headguard: “As someone who knows this sport inside out and understands player needs, the idea of a headguard to protect players from flailing limbs and accidental collisions is simply common sense,” said Allie Kemp-Sullivan. “When I was first introduced to Full90 and saw the headguard, I jumped at the chance to promote it and the idea of safety standards in soccer. I can’t believe someone hasn’t done this sooner.“
“I tried the Full90 Headguard and the transition to wearing head protection was easy. I don’t feel that my performance will suffer at all,” said midfielder Daniela. “I was able to concentrate more on the game and less on the thought of being injured.”
